Lakes, Oceans, 5 years, OH MY!

Oh my what a week it has been! This week started with a morning trip to Jordan Lake. The lake is located about 30 minutes from our house and it is the perfect spot to spend her morning awake time. (9:00am-12pm) Grace usually falls asleep on the way home, but so far she is great at transferring to her crib! She LOVED the lake. The gentle water that she could splash her toes in, the wet sand she could attempt to put in her mouth and the blanket on the beach covered with toys to play with! Pretty much any 8 month old's dream come true.

Around the house Grace is learning new things and finding new trouble every day! We have had our first real "bruise" on our head, her left side, then the next day she got a matching bruise on her right side. We thought maybe she was growing horns?? hehe. Luckily all signs of falls are gone... for now. We are sure they will be back. She has now made several trips walking with the aid of a push walker but no Mommy or Daddy helping. She can also now get herself to a sitting position from crawling. Each day there seems to be new things she can do. She gives "fives" which is her version of a high five, and she can even do it with both hands! "DOUBLE FIVE!!!" Daddy loves to do that one with Grace, because he taught her to scream each time they do it. Interesting at a restaurant... all I have to say. hehe

We tried a new game this week that Grace loved. I would get out the stickers and put one on each arm and leg. She would spend the next 5-10 minutes working to get them off. Her brain is amazing, the way it already puts things together. It is also amazing practice for those fine motor skills. We are really noticing the difference at meal times. Almost all the food makes it into her mouth now! Much better for clean up.

Then we headed to the BEACH! Mimi, J-pa, Uncle Taylor, Daddy, Mommy and Grace will be staying at Kure Beach for a whole week! Grace loved her first couple days out by the water. She plays a lot with her toys under the shade.  Mommy is a little freaky about Grace going to far into the water, that current is ROUGH, and playing on the edge of the water... not as safe here as the lake. But we did manage to bring a small baby pool with us today so that Grace had some gentle water to play in while we were by the water. This worked MUCH better! We go out in the morning so Grace has her 2nd bottle ocean side. It is a nice break in the playing. She gulps it down! So much work being little and playing hard.

Daddy and Mommy celebrated their 5 year anniversary! We went out to dinner and recounted some of our favorite memories of the first 5 years. Some of the tops were our move to Morganton, NC. Our yard and caring for it there, various vacations, but mostly being together in the quiet times, sitting on our porch when it rains, dancing at night when it is past our bedtime, playing hide in the seek in the dark, yes Grace, Mommy and Daddy have always had a lot of fun. Oh and of course the best decision we ever made, deciding it was time to meet you our sweet first born. It was also fun to think where we will be 5 years from now, on June 24, 2017. Do you think you will have a brother or sister by then? We hope so! (but no rush...)

Early Morning RUNS! Each morning we have gone for a run on the beach. It is so nice to run without shoes on! This morning exhausted you sweet girl, you slept on the way back. Its tough work going for an early run! But we are so glad you were there with us.

Other random pictures from this week. Notice we spend a lot of time playing with our sweet girl, but we also  have been playing games, deveining shrimp (J-pa and Uncle Taylor), chatting, reading books, and of course napping when Grace does!!!

This week you started waving Grace! J-pa got the first several waves, but you have now waved at everyone and thing (including the fan on the ceiling) It is so amazing to interact with YOU. You have always been fun to watch, admire, and snuggle with, but getting to know you is really an amazing thing. You have a smile that lights up the room, and you laugh so often. I love hearing your laugh. Most  nights Daddy and I have trouble leaving your room because you are just laughing, laughing, laughing. I pray you always keep your carefree, loving life attitude. You are so loved sweet girl. I love you all the fish in the ocean times all the specks of sand. May you always know how loved you are.

FATHER's DAY, 16 lbs and 6/9 month clothes

I can't believe she finally made it to 16 lbs! Daddy and I were just talking this morning on our walk how something has happened in the last week with Grace's growing. She is still small, but her body is changing to look much more like a toddler and much less like an infant! All the 3/6 month clothes are now put away and the 6/9 month clothes fit perfectly. She is now wearing things that I was pretty sure she would NEVER grow into. But what do you know.. she made it into the 6/9 month clothes with a whole month before she "should" out grow them! However the 6/9 month clothes say 16-21 lbs... so I am thinking we will be in them for a while! Moving, moving, moving... it is getting hard to keep up with this girl! Here are some shots from different days this week in the playroom.

This week we wished Aunt Jen a safe move to Charlotte! We will miss her very much, but we know she is only 3 hours away. We already have plans to stop by in July on our way to Mimi and J-pa's! While Aunt Jen was over we did a fun art project... BODY PAINTING. Yes I know, I am crazy. We used flour, water, and food coloring and Grace had a blast. By the end I am pretty sure she was painted everywhere. Notice how they only place with no paint is that beautiful bow. This girl knows what things are important!

Our secret Father's Day gift, a stepping stone for the Garden with Grace's footprint. A good friend suggested that we make one each year and have a stepping stone garden, I like that idea! Daddy was surprised, and he LOVED it!

Another day's activity time! It was supposed to be "sink or float" but it turns out all the items Mommy picked out floated... so instead we did "Mommy puts the orange ball in" "Grace takes the orange ball out" hehe. We had a great time, and of course Grace loved putting it ALL in her mouth!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY DADDY!!!! We had such a wonderful day. Pictures before church of Daddy and Grace on the swing on our front porch, picking up Ben and taking him for a picnic at Bond Park, meeting up with Uncle Taylor and going to explore a newly opened park in Cary with lots of water fountains and a yogurt shop! Gabe, you have turned into an amazing Father. I always new you would be... but it is an entire other thing to see it in action. You truly are Grace's first love. We love you so much.

Sweet thing you make my heart sing! Putting you in big girl clothes makes it strike home how big you really are getting. Even though I will always love, cherish, and maybe even miss your baby phase, it is so exciting now to see how much more you can do! You are so entertaining now! It is so fun to interact with you, watch you learn new things, and even listen to you make yourself laugh, which you do often. I love you sweet girl.
